Dr. Chengcheng Fang joined the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science at Michigan State University as an Assistant Professor in 2020. Her research focuses on developing new materials and chemistry, multiscale quantitative characterization, and scalable processing and manufacturing for energy storage and conversion. Dr. Fang received her Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from UC San Diego in 2019. She also holds an M.Phil. in Innovative Technologies Leadership from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and a B.E. in Materials Science and Engineering from Zhejiang University. Her honors include the DOE Early Career Award (2026), MSU Corporate Connector Award (2025), Rising Star of Advanced Materials (2025), MIT Technology Review's 35 Innovators Under 35 Global List (2022), and the Materials Research Society Graduate Student Award (2019).

The research in Fang Group is highly interdisciplinary and broadly covers the topics of designing and developing new materials, materials synthesis methods, manufacturing methods, and characterization methods to engineer next-generation energy storage and conversion systems. Highly motivated researchers in materials science, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, chemistry, or physics are always welcome to contact Dr. Fang. Visiting scholars and undergraduate students are also welcome to join.
